“Interviewed on the radio!”… or maybe not: the truth behind StoryTime (and why you should do it too)

We all dream, sooner or later, of being interviewed.

Because we’re good at what we do, because we’ve built something, because we deserve attention.

And so when the opportunity comes to join a radio program where a journalist will ask you questions about your company, your story, your vision for the future… well, how could you say no?

That’s exactly what happened to me.

The show is called StoryTime, it airs on Radio Canale Italia, and the concept is truly powerful: telling the stories of entrepreneurs, with a human tone, guided questions, and a good rhythm. But there’s an important detail I want to share with you with full transparency: they don’t call you because they discovered you, they call you because you can pay to tell your story.

This is how it works:

  • You pay based on the amount of material you want to receive (audio interview, video, clips, etc.)

  • You are asked pre-arranged questions

  • You are given space and visibility to share your story as you see fit

So no, it’s not an award, it’s not a selection process, and it’s not about “meritocracy.”

It is a self-promotion service, well designed, and even better sold.

And yet…

I would do it all over again. And do you know why?

Because it forces you to tell your story.

To sit in front of a microphone. To speak clearly, consistently, and from the heart.

And it’s not easy at all.

Talking about your own business is hard.

You’ve got too many things in your head, they all seem normal, and you often underestimate the power of what you’ve built.

But preparing to answer those questions, even knowing they’re scripted, forces you to organize your ideas, train your voice, and better understand who you are.

In my case, I talked about the birth of Tecnotrade (“more than a vision, a mirage” back in the late ’90s), about the future I envision for the web, and about how small businesses, with just a few tools, can truly make a difference if they’re supported in the right way.

One of the moments I care about the most?

“My ideal client isn’t the mega brand, but the little kitten who sees a lion in the mirror.”
The kind of entrepreneur who has hunger, vision, and the desire to take risks.”

Moral of the story?

It’s perfectly fine to pay to tell your story, as long as you do it with awareness and transparency.

It’s even better if this exercise makes you realize how important it is to have communication that truly works.

And if speaking on the radio gives you a bit of anxiety… don’t worry: we’re here for that.

At Tecnotrade we help entrepreneurs share their story professionally, online, without embarrassment, and with a digital presence that actually works.
